Our recommended highlights, besides a stay at Lapa Rios Ecolodge, for a visit to Costa Rica include:
San Jose and Central Valley: Stay a night or two in the Central Valley and do a coffee tour, visit a museum, buy some artwork or souvenirs in Sarchi, or go on a river rafting adventure down the spectacular Pacuare River.
Arenal Volcano & Hotsprings: Observe the spectacular active Arenal Volcano and soak in the beautiful hot springs near La Fortuna. Explore waterfalls or go on horseback expeditions. You might want to think about a trip to Monteverde as well.
Quepos and Manuel Antonio: Manuel Antonio is one of Costa Rica’s most famous national parks, featuring wildlife and pristine beaches. There are many things to do in the area and it is worth the visit. The beach town of Jaco is just an hour away and one of the country’s best surf spots.
The Caribbean Coast: Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast is famous for its canals of Tortuguero and giant sea turtle hatching beaches. The south offers beautiful beaches, national parks and some Rasta culture in the beach towns of Puerto Viejo and Cahuita.
The Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park: This is in our opinion one of Costa Rica’s most exciting and most interesting places to visit. The amount of wildlife one sees at Corcovado National Park or in the Lapa Rios private reserve is stunning even for the more experienced traveler.
Activities and things to do: Guided rainforest hikes, sea or ocean kayaking, white water rafting, bird watching, coffee tour, banana plantation tour, canopy tour, hot springs and spa treatments, relaxing on the beach, sport fishing, dolphin and whale watching, surfing, sea turtle tour.
