He came from northwest part of Nicaragua, Valle de las Zapata that is a little town outside Leon City. He worked in Leon as a waiter for a year. Then he moved to southern of the country, San Juan del Sur, for working in a new project in hospitality, this project was the beginning of the development of Morgans Rock when it was a reforested farm. Juan started working in the reforestation project and planting trees. When the Ecolodge was completely built he thought he can work as a waiter, but then he was trained as a tour guide by a biologist. Juan learned basic concepts of flora and fauna, and also speaks English. Now, he is a great tour guide who loves nature and is willing to learn more everyday. He is an example for other to pursue their dreams and work very hard for being a better professional.
He grew up in a little town near to Rivas that is Potosi. Since his childhood he worked in the family small business, Carpentry. When he finished high school, he had his own carpentry. On March 2004, one of his friends told him about Morgan´s Rock. He came to the Ecolodge to work as a carpenter. After 6 moths working in the construction and the hotel was complete built, he felt proud for being part of the construction team. On October he applied for a job at the hotel in maintenance department, and he got the job. Then he worked at reception for learning and practicing English, because his goal was to be a tour guide. After 6 months working at front desk, he went to Costa Rica for being trained in different strategies of how to work with nature and culture. When he came back to Morgan´s Rock he designed must of the tours that are offered to the guest at Morgans Rock today. At this moment he still works in this area and he’s enjoying learning about Nicaragua history and wild life in the dry forest. His next step to pursue is learning to speak German and French for being a tour guide who can speak several languages.
His first job was working in reforestation fields cleaning trees for one year. Afterwards, the farm’s foreman gave him the opportunity to work in the construction of the hotel. As part of the construction team, he worked on the suspended bridge, pool, bungalows, ditches for water and electrical systems and he also helped place the large rock that is in front of the lobby as one of the main decorations. Once the hotel opened, the owner and the manager offered him a placement in the staff taking care of the pool and gardens. During this time, he studied English with a teacher provided by the hotel management. Today, he is working as on of our waiters and is in training to become a tour guide. He would like to learn more English until he speaks it well. He would also like to learn more about flora and fauna just like the tour guides and in the long run, in 5 or 6 years, he would like becoming a general manager. He believes that everything in Morgan’s Rock is good and he thinks it is incredible and beautiful because when he began to work here, he didn’t know any English. Now he has more hope and he knows he is learning more; this makes him want to live more.
