Diving at Morgan’s Rock

Thanks for your interest in scuba/snorkeling trips through Dive Nicaragua in San Juan del Sur. For your information, I have been scuba diving since the early 1980's. I received my NAUI instructor certification in 1992, and have been a certified PADI instructor since 1998. I am qualified to teach beginner, advanced and divemaster scuba classes, as well as specialty classes such as rescue diving, underwater navigation and wreck diving. Since becoming an instructor, I have taught over 1,000 students to dive in group and individual classes, and led dive tours to other countries while I was affiliated with SportsChalet-one of the biggest chains of sporting good stores in California.

I am also a certified scuba tank inspector, and am trained in dive equipment service and repair. In addition, I have taken the NAUI course in First Aid/CPR, the DAN course for Oxygen First Aid instruction, and actually taught First Aid/CPR through the American Red Cross for several years before relocating to Nicaragua. I also have been trained by the U.S. Coast guard in navigation, and have both American and Nicaraguan boat captain's licenses.

For dive/snorkeling trips, I use a 21 foot Bayliner Trophy cabin cruiser with cover for sun protection which I brought down from the United States. It has a 150 HP engine as well as a brand new Yamaha auxiliary outboard for emergencies, fishing and drift dive trips. The boat is equipped with the latest electronics, including GPS and depth gauge/fish finder. There are always sufficient life vests for all persons on board. There are never more than 4 passengers on the boat, but there is a 2 person minimum. Most of my scuba/snorkel rental equipment is only a year old. So you can see, I am eminently qualified to take out passengers for dive or snorkel trips and am very safety conscious.

We also offer full-day and half day fishing trips, as well as water skiing, surf trips and coastal tours to those just wanting some time out on the water. I recently moved to a house San Jorge (which is on Lake Nicaragua and just a short distance from San Juan del Sur) and am currently looking into taking passengers out on the lake and over to Omotepe Island as well as running trips out of San Juan.

Our prices have changed somewhat from those listed on the Dive Nicaragua web-site (in large part due to the increasing cost of gasoline), and I will e-mail you separately a current price sheet. In the past, we have negotiated a sliding scale commission ranging from 5 to 10 percent depending on the volume of referrals, and we can discuss this further if you think that you will be able to refer business to us from your offices in Costa Rica and Managua.

By the way, the coast off of San Juan del Sur is very similar to that of the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica, so conditions are similar but there are a lot less boats on the water since the water sport business-and tourism in general-are new to Nicaragua. There have been a number of very favorable articles in the U.S. press about fishing, surfing and diving in Nicaragua, so the number of tourists to the San Juan area is increasing, but slowly, as the word gets out.
